Could I bring a phone back from Beijing?

I'm visiting China later this year. A couple of questions:

1. Are there any phones worth buying there that you can't get here?
2. Are phones generally cheaper after the exchange rate?
3. Do Chinese phones work in the UK?!

Ok that was three questions ;)

Yes you can, but firstly check GSM compatibility, most Chinese phones are compatible with our 900/1800 GSM standards (most are compatible across 850/900/1800/1900mhz) and the WCDMA (900/2100mhz). UMI and Jiayu are popular highly rated Chinese phones.

1) Apparently so (there's many weird and wonderful phones with features that you'd never see here, such as dual sims) but no personal experience to advise.
2) Generally yes
3) On the whole, yes - but always beware the non-standard Chinese knock-off that could well just sit there looking pretty, But that's the same with a lot of goods, not just phones.
