Why is browsing so slow on the BlackBerry Curve 8520?

My browsing is really slow compared my friends’ phones. Is there anything I can do to speed up my BlackBerry Curve 8520?

The Blackberry 8520 is a 2G phone. Your friends probaly have 3G devices - ie higher speeds.
Use your BB's browser and go to http://www.mini.opera.com and download Opera Mini 6 or 4 (avoid 5 - it doesnt like the optical d-pad). Opera Mini is much much faster than Blackberry's own browser.

baseman,
can you give us an idea what you mean by "slow"? Bearing in mind: the 8520 is pretty much a
low-end budget Blackberry. It has no 3G.
what site's are slow? How is BBM/emailing or, say, a Twitter app?

try and use Opera Mini when you want to browse the webs.
Open your BB's browser and visit mini.opera.com - Opera's server will recognise
your phone model, and offer you appropriate download links. Click on the newest version (6.x) download, install and never use the BB browser again ;)

By slow i mean using WiFi with 10 M bit speed to open one portal page http://www.idividi.com.mk on my Samsung galaxy mini its need 10 sec using default browser and default settings, on bb 8520 its need more then 1 minute to load this page, i try to download and install opera and its not working it say no internet connection or something. I know that bb 8520 is cheep phone but Samsung galaxy mini is more chiper then this also on bb 8520 i don't have support to install VOIP software like Skype or etc. BTW i download and update all software i did find on my bb8520

The 8520 and Galaxy Mini cannot be compared pricewise. RIM always take extra for BIS services, BBM etc - you are saving a lot on data-usages because RIM run massive servers all over the world. You also pay for RIM keepinng your data (relatively) secure.
Fact is, the 8520 is a basic phone that has a bad bad native browser - nevermind those by different mnufacturers with different OSs.

When you tried to download Opera Mini, what connection were you using?
WiFi, BIS or your phone network's 'normal' Internet APN?

Have you tried downloading OM to PC http://www.opera.com/mobile/download/blackberry/8520_curve/ and side-loading it?

Or try m.opera.com from the BB browser. I honestly don't know why it shouldn't work. Also, try the older 4.x versions. Your BB may be stuck on an old firmware?

Do you have any other 3rd party apps that rely on web connection? A twitter or fb app? How are they doing?

Yes. That is what I thought. The browser on the 8520 sucks big time.
I thought Opera Mini 4 worked best because it wasn't designed for touch like versions 5 and up. OM 4 is less fancy, but faster. Definitely.

BTW.. i have used before Nokia with Symbian, Samsung with android, HTC with windows os and this is my first time to use blackberry. With respect to RIM what they are trying to do with keeping information on all user but that's is not big dial if we speak about more thinks bb sucks if i compare with any other phone i have been used before i was wondering why is so popular and i can see now that its only because BBM nothing else.

Yes, BBM is definitely the big thing for non-corporate users. And the battery performance is a factor, too. Also: on OS7 the browser is hugely improved, which means with the BIS compression I can visit full websites without 3G/WiFi. My Bold 9900 lasts 3 days on a charge with Ubersocial polling Twitter every 15 mins for 10 hrs/day, and with 3 mail boxes on push + regular checking of Mobot; posting; deleting spam etc... it's also very stable, and the build quality is second to only the N9/Lumia.
But I can imagine how, with different needs and wants, it can be a letdown to switch to an 8520...
