Why is my browsing so slow on the HTC Dream?

I've tried browsing at several locations, home, work, coffee shops, and it seems to be about the same.

There are lots of reasons why your browsing might be slow on the HTC Dream. The signal could be low; some sites send a large volume of data (hence why some sites have specific mobile versions); and the Dream’s browser occasionally struggles when it encounters Flash (the Hero was the first Android smartphone to support Flash).

You could also try an app called Advanced Task Manager. Use it to close any applications running in the background. The more apps you have open, the slower the Dream will perform.

Does it help if you are on 3G or wifi? Has it always been slow? Have you cleared the cash and deleted the browser history?
Use Opera Mini. It's available in the Market. O.M. only uses a fraction of the data usually needed to render a web page on your phone. Opera's servers crunch the data and reformat it in perfect shape for a mobile screen. Thus a 500kb webpage will only require about 50-100kb of data download to the phone. If you live in poor-signal-land, Opera Mini is a must. Only disadvantage is that it doesn't support Flash. But for ordinary browsing it is very very good. The latest version also allows you to set it as default browser. So, when you hit a web link in an email or tweet, Opera Mini will open the page for you instead of the bulkier Android browser.

First and explantion: You may recall that when you visit a web site that showshyperlinks to other pages, the hyperlinks are a different color if you have already visited the linked page. Your browser does this by keeping a list of all the pages you have ever visited and then comparing it to the hyperlinks on the page you are about to view. Before fully loading the page, it compares the hyperlink to everyone of the pages you have ever viewed. Let's say you have viewed 1000 pages previously and that the page you are about to view has 20 hyperlinks. Your computer has to perform 20,000 comparisons before it can open the page. That's a lot of work.

You can simply erase your history by selecting Tools, Internet Options, General tab. Select erase history. The obvious disadvantage will be that you won't know if you've been there before. But it should load fast.
