If buying a phone in America do I need to be aware of "bands"?

If I find a smartphone bargain in the US do I need to be aware of "bands"? I vaguely understand CDMA/GSM (if those are the right letters)? Are those still a thing? ;p

Yes. A CDMA device will NOT work, whatever the bands....

What network are you planning to use the phone on in the UK* (*is that still a thing? :p )

Not sure yet. I'm starting to think this might be more hassle than it's worth lol.

3G will work, 4G will not work. 3G can also be phone dependent.
BTW, you cannot find a bargain in US. Stores there don't sell unlocked phones - you need to buy online where it's unlocked and you don't need to be in US to check what's online.
