So far seems like the so called Windows Phone 8 launch has been a load of hotch potch and disappointment. I'm wondering, does anyone actually have a WP8? Especially the Lumia 920 or Samsung Ativ S?

They aren't really properly out, yet, are they?

I always thought it was the end of October, then beginning of November. As much as I dislike Apple at least they know how to do a proper launch. So even those numerous 820 deals are not available and if you'd ordered a 920 on the EE site a week ago you'd still not have it? That seems pretty crappy.

Well they do a launch then "run out" then the wait begins at least..
p4u had posters in their windows about several wp8 phones implying they were in stock, but I didn't go in as there weren't enough customers to keep the staff out of the way.
Not sure anyone has been mad enough to pay EE's prices for 920 yet

I think many devices are 'launched' Nov 9th, but there is a catastrophic lack of info, imho...
Not good. Makes you wonder how Samsung, e.g., get it so right - announcement, and wroom, the things are in the stores within weeks.

Mind you, STILL NO nano-sims in this part of Ireland. Well done, Apple.

Well Samsung haven't got it right this time either and theirs was one of the first announced. So the key might be don't let ms get involved, especially when they seem more interested in releasing w8 than wp8.

Are they still shifting iphones though?

A glitch on three.ie shows the HTC Accord under prepay devices. No photo, but the Accord is the HTC 8X, right? I assume it'll go live within the next few days. prepay €449 (but again: seems to be a placeholder - page for it doesn't exist)

Pondlife  Nov. 6, 2012 at 19:12

Yep. €449 less than the £379 I've seen for uk too. (I think)

JanSt / MOD  Nov. 6, 2012 at 19:16

Sorry, €459 https://pbs.twimg.com/media/A7CmMzbCEAEh_uy.jpg

Pondlife  Nov. 6, 2012 at 19:23

Still slightly less, about enough for a top up. £10

Thanks, interesting stuff! Do you know when the Samsung Ativ S is released? I'm due an upgrade on O2 14 November.

Pondlife  Nov. 6, 2012 at 21:23

Read that it was still due November but after the other launch phones.
o2 concur with that, you could ask for updates on ativ availability here

Thanks for your help, although I can't understand why they can't give a precise launch date by now, it must be close.

JanSt / MOD  Nov. 6, 2012 at 21:38

Yes, very strange for the "big push" to become the 3rd eco-system...

Pondlife  Nov. 6, 2012 at 21:48

Couldn't organise a .... up in a brewery it seems.
o2 say the 8x is out, the 8s and 820 coming soon, the ativ further away.
p4u poster said they had the 8x exclusive...

It all went a bit... wrong last week. The official UK launch date for the Lumia handsets was 2/11 and both the 920 and 820 were supposed to be in good supply at the relevant retailers on that date. Unfortunately, while the Windows Phone 8 launch event was going on, Nokia were being told that their handsets were failing carrier testing in the UK. That's where the chaos has come from - that eventuality was never planned for. They've had to fix the problems, reflash the handsets and resubmit them to carriers for testing. Various parties have done their best to guess how long this will take, hence the multitude of launch dates. Mumblings suggest launch is getting close now, but I doubt anyone wants to talk firm launch dates.

EDIT: Nokia have posted on their UK Facebook page to say the handsets are shipping back to retailers and should be on sale by Friday.

thanks

Interesting, rather a balls up on Nokia's part then. Wonder what they failed on. Though the quote was asking about the ativ. Mind you could be same issue.

Maybe a 'skype' issue ? ;)

Thanks satchef1, That's the most info I've seen about why there is such a delay and I've been looking for updates every day!

...I just bought a Note II

Vodafone aren't ranging any Windows Phone 8 handsets until next year, but they didn't want to lose my custom to another network so they slashed the Note 2 price for me. I'm now on their top plan, paying less a month that I was before, and they've giving me a Note II. I couldn't even get a Lumia 820 this cheap, so a pretty stunning deal. Arrives tomorrow. Not sure if I'm keeping it yet but I'm fed up waiting for WP8 availability and I doubt I'll find a competitive deal anyway.

Or sell the Note 2 and get wp8 on sim free..

JanSt / MOD  Nov. 9, 2012 at 18:14

Samsung's Ativ S is.... guess what!?! Delayed, says rumour

Pondlife  Nov. 9, 2012 at 21:41

Well it was due later than the others anyway, is a bit weird when it's essentially s3 with wp8, and announced a fair old while back now. Mind you ms was a bit tardy releasing wp8..

JanSt / MOD  Nov. 10, 2012 at 08:57

Well... apparently the Lumia 820 and 920 are available instore at AT&T.
