There’s nary a day goes by that our Jan doesn’t mourn the passing of MeeGo while cuddling his beloved N9.
To add salt to the wound, news has leaked of a handset intended to be the N9’s successor, complete with a QWERTY keyboard. Can someone keep an eye on Jan?
I speak of the Nokia “Lauta” or RM-742. A host of images has been passed to the good gents of My Nokia Blog.
In terms of specs, the Nokia Lauta is/was said to be identical to the N9 (which means a 4in display, of course), save for that sexy sliding/tilting keyboard. A bit like the developer N950 then.
Somewhat depressingly, the Nokia Lauta was so far along that there were fully functioning prototypes kicking around.
The Nokia Lauta is leaked in plain black, and an interesting black/magenta combo. It’s thought that there would’ve been some sort of cyan variant, too.
Nokia ultimately shoved its MeeGo plans aside in favour of Windows Phone. However, the guys at Jolla Mobile (including a bunch of former Nokia employees) have vowed to keep the dream alive.
