Carphone Warehouse: Samsung Galaxy S4 pre-orders ‘off the charts’

Carphone Warehouse: Samsung Galaxy S4 pre-orders ‘off the charts’The reaction to the Samsung Galaxy S4 wasn’t hugely enthusiastic, with many educated buyers seriously contemplating the HTC One (sexier design) or Sony Xperia Z (er, waterproof) as alternatives.

However, if there were any concerns that the Samsung Galaxy S4 mightn’t repeat the success of the Samsung Galaxy S III, think again. Carphone Warehouse describes pre-order interest as “off the charts”.

Comparing Samsung Galaxy S4 pre-order figures (March 15-18, 2013) to those for the Samsung Galaxy S III (April 25-30, 2012), Carphone Warehouse notes a whopping 446% increase.

Worth noting that the former figures encompass four days while the latter encompass six, which makes the 446% increase all the more impressive.

Graham Stapleton, COO at CPW, screams: “The vast number of pre-registrations we’ve had for this device is evidence how hot the Galaxy S4 is going to be. The launch event in New York clearly captured the imagination of many of our customers - acting as the driving force for the busiest pre-registration period we’ve ever seen!

“The Galaxy SIII launch broke records last year and was always going to be a tough one to beat, but the S4 is already proving to be a more than capable step up in the series that will inspire many people to make the switch to Android from other operating systems. This device is the one to watch for 2013.”

One to watch, eh? Who would’ve thought? I wonder if that so-called “iPhone 5S” is worth keeping an eye on, too.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 release date is set for April 26, and it'll be available from CPW across all major networks.

I know we didn't have much of a summer last year but still wishing it away...

So they don't actually give the figures anywhere, just the %age increase?

blogger1234  Mar. 21, 2013 at 13:38

I guess a good proportion of these preorders maybe based on the UK phone having 8 cores from the Exynos5 chip. However as reported Samsung are rumored to ship the Qualcomm chip version which is only 4 cores but LTE.

I guess will be bothered and some won't. The true judge will be when the specs are confirmed and actual sales compared. For sure it will still be a top seller in anycase because its "Galaxy" branded, and its seems fashionable to have 'Samsung' products like it is to have Apple products.

And what does "pre-order" mean in CPW lingo? Like Vodafone's "register your interest"? I.e. nothing at all?

Pondlife  Mar. 21, 2013 at 14:09

Well they do both, suspect it's the more meaningless one that they are quoting.
Shouldn't think they'll mind if some cancel actual pre-orders as they'll get to keep the £30 deposit I believe.

morpheus  Mar. 21, 2013 at 15:33

Was thinking the same thing myself Jan, all i've seen is "register for updates" pages which require no firm commitment at all.

Perhaps I missed the "pre-order" with £30 deposit that pondlife mentioned? You got a link to that pondlife?

Pondlife  Mar. 21, 2013 at 15:43

Erm on the revolving thing on their main page it says for just £29 you can jump the queue when the Samsung Galaxy s4 becomes available with Smartphone VIP
with link to this page

Seems odd that Samsung have chosen BB Q10 launch day to launch the S4 ;)
Will anyone notice Samsungs phone hit the market...

morpheus  Mar. 21, 2013 at 15:52

Good spot - you'd have to be nuts to pay £30 to "be the first" to pay far too much for this phone hehe

Pondlife  Mar. 21, 2013 at 15:59

Well they don't even tell you how much...

krogothnx  Mar. 21, 2013 at 19:03

Asda still want £501 for the Note 2, I can't see their price for the S4 being lower than that...

£450.90 with the 10% offer. Please tell me where it's cheaper as I've been thinking of getting one and can't see any cheaper. There was a one off deal on smartfonestore on HUKD, but seems there was only one for that bargain price anyway. is about the same price whether you use Amazon's currency converter, or pay on a credit card.

matt101101 / MOD  Mar. 24, 2013 at 17:01

Amazon UK will sell you either colour for sub-£450.

an1  Mar. 24, 2013 at 17:12

That's Amazon marketplace though, which means things like grey import (less tax paid than by Amazon themselves), or worse possibly shipping from China etc. Amazon themselves is £476.60. Amazon do have "used - very good" white ones for £361.94 though. Quite tempting if they're as good with returns as they usually are.

matt101101 / MOD  Mar. 24, 2013 at 18:00

So it is, the white ones are fulfilled by Amazon, though. They've gone up in price, I bought mine in mid-December from for £425 delivered...looks good for my resale value haha ;)

It looks like the Euro is doing less well than the £, making buying from .de etc less of a good deal than it was a while back. Should have changed some £'s for Euros a while back, lol.
