Cell Splat iPhone review

Cell Splat iPhone reviewYet another little gem I came across while scouring Planet iOS for the Best free iPhone games. As you’ve possibly inferred already, Cell Splat is both free and good.

In Cell Splat, a coloured shape is displayed at the top of the screen, and you have to tap the corresponding shapes in the grid below. It probably sounds stupidly simple, but there are a number of quirky little elements that’ll keep you interested in Cell Splat for longer than you might initially expect.

Time is of the proverbial essence in Cell Splat. You have to tap as fast as you can; no slacking or it’ll be Game Over before you know it. The fast-paced nature of the game can become overwhelming, but it’s all part of the fun.

To mix things up a little, there are a couple of special shapes that appear at the top. The first is a grey shape, which allows you to tap any colour of that particular shape. So say it’s a grey square; you can tap red, green, blue, yellow, purple… any squares you like. It’s actually hugely satisfying, as you can temporarily forget about colour and go nuts, ramping up huge combos.

The other is a coloured splat. This means you can tap any shape of a particular colour. For example, if the splat is red, you can tap squares, circles, triangles… it’s all good.

Just to throw you off a little more, some of the shapes are slightly darker. These demand two taps before they disappear.

Cell Splat is a lot of fun, and has two extra modes to unlock. Getting to level 20 or above in Easy unlocks Medium; reaching level 20 in Medium unlocks Hard. It’s pretty freakin’ tough going.
