What are the chances of bricking during a jailbreak?

What are the chances of bricking an iPhone 4 during the jailbreaking process? Is it just random? Is there any logic to it?

Pretty much zero possibility. The worst thing that will happen is your phone won't turn on so you have to go into DFU mode to restore (http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=1034) so always be sure to make a back up in iTunes before you do anything.

I suppose the warning of possible bricking is put out because the developers can't test on a wide range of devices so they don't really know how it will react on every single iPhone.

Or.. ignore what I've said and take the chance of bricking your phone as that, a chance. It'll make the process a little more exciting and you'll feel like you're living on the edge.

I find that if you follow all pertinent instructions, jailbreaking is fairly safe.
Getting rid of a jailbreak or restoring are much more brick-inducing... but that is just my personal experience.

You can brink Apple devices only by flashing wrong baseband. You don't need to do it in order to jailbreak, but you have to if you want to SIM unlock.
