We've all done it - that poolside Facebook check, a cheeky app download whilst sunning yourself on the beach, a call home to tell your nearest and dearest how hot it is wherever you are and debate time differences. Often the bill for using your phone abroad can knock your post-holiday buzz down a notch or two, with roaming data costs and stacked up charges adding a hefty amount to your monthly outgoings.
Three have just made a huge update to their popular "Feel at Home" plan, the scheme which allows you to use your phone abroad without paying roaming charges. From April 1st, Three.co.uk are ditching all roaming charges in Spain, meaning you can call and text home, browse the internet, tweet and chat without being stung.
The inclusion of Spain is a real game changer for many Three users, with members on HotUKDeals calling it a "Killer Edition".
Other countries already on the plan include
Republic of Ireland
United States of America
It's worth remembering that even if you're in one of the countries on the plan, you still need to pay extra to call and text non-UK numbers. You can get around this by using VoIP apps such as Viber or Skype.
So, how do Three customers use "Feel at Home"?
Just go on holiday! The second you land in any of the countries listed above and your phone picks up a local network, your calls, texts and data will then be charged as if you were still in rainy Britain. This will work whether you're on a monthly, Pay-As-You-Go, or SIM-only contract. Mobile broadband also works a treat if you have a dongle.
If you're planning on taking your laptop abroad, dodge roaming charges by getting a cheap mobile broadband dongle. Three mobile broadband starts at £7.50 per month or £10.49 PAYG.
