Most Useful Answer Wigston  Nov. 26, 2012 at 12:13

hi im lookig for a cheap phone that has apps but i cant find one any sations where to look ?

Hi Gregool,
For £39.99 the Alcatel One Touch 983 Android smart phone. Half the price of the San Francisco and comes loaded with "dozens" of apps including one for Ebay.
Check out the specifications of the phone then pop off to http://www.o2.co.uk (or go instore) and buy one. It is listed in the Pay and Go section. They sell it for £39.99 including delivery!!
It can be unlocked if you prefer another network.
I purchased one last week, and am well impressed, and setting up is a breeze. :)

I am looking for a cheap phone that can have apps, or at the very least run ebay, though preferably not through some shoddy browser if that makes sense. Push email would also be a bonus. Im not bothered about camera etc. Any thoughts?

What would you consider cheap? Or in other words what is the price limit for a "cheap" phone?

Gregool  Jan. 19, 2011 at 23:13

I think £50 would be reasonable.

Hmmm. That's a toughie. Are you wanting a phone that will run 3rd party apps? I think for around £100 you could a very nice little phone that does everything you need. Maybe slightly less.

I just want to be able to have easy access to ebay on the go. If that means third party apps then I guess so. On side note, could I put an ebay app on a SE w705? cheers

I don't think you would be able to install an eBay app to your Sony Ericsson. I would recommend the Orange San Francisco as a good phone that will allow you to access eBay on the go. I don't really know of many phones that have it built in as standard.

Hmm. Thanks for your help.

No problem. I don't think I've helped too much though! You've probably got more questions than answers now!

I'd second a vote for the San Francisco. If ebay is your only need then it's probably money wasted, but you'll find you can do much more with it when out on the road. Plus as it used Android you've got access to a pretty well stocked app Marketplace.

Third vote for the SanFran! Fantastic phone! Have had this phone for 2 months and cannot fault it 1 bit. Once you switch to a smart phone , i doubt you ever go back.

1) loads of apps, ebay, skype, facebook , train timetable, sports scores etc
2) Gmail for "true push mail", emails arrives in seconds after being sent. Can also use hotmail, yahoo etc. which refresh and push email every 15 minutes. Also sync’s to google calendar so any update made on computer will instantly be reflected on your phone
3)GPS and Google navigation. Free turn by turn navigation(no need for a Tom Tom)
4) wifi, so always on internet(skype, ebay) @ home without incurring data charges
5) Good specs, phone runs nice and quick. all for a budget price.
6) Prepaid and easy to unlock. So you can you use your current sim no matter which network you are on.
7) Fantastic media player. Music, video playback(480x 800 , 3.5 inch display). 2gig sd included, upgradable to 32gig

I moved from a standard nokia candybar fone to this, I too use to think I don’t need all these extra's . But the question I ask, for practically the same price as any budget phone, why not buy this and get all the extras?

If this phone was sold at £200, I would still buy it! Closet thing to this is the wildfire (imho Wildfire is inferior due to the slower performance and worse display) but that’s almost double the price! @ £89 this phone rocks!

Hi Gregool, ebay have a mobile site => http://www.wap.ebay.co.uk that is accessible from any mobile phone with a browser - no matter how cheap.
Moreover, there's an app called Snaptu that can run on every phone that supports java apps (most budget phones and the SE 705) do.Snaptu consists of a number of small apps incl one for eBay (and twitter, facebook etc etc). Check out snaptu here => http://www.snaptu.com/ I have used snaptu a lot in the past and find it very good. It's like installing a little smartphone onto your 'dumbphone' LOL
