Best cheap smartphone which will be used mostly for calling abroad via Viber, Skype etc.?

Hi. I need a phone to send a relative in a foreign country so we can talk using Skype or Viber. Not video calls, just voice calls over the internet. I don't want to spend around £100 for a Moto G as it's only the voice calling over the internet function that I would need, not the rest of the features. Would any of you be able to recommend me a cheap smartphone, in the region of £25-£45 that I can use? Second hand, of course. Thanks.

Alcatel S'Pop is £40 from O2. Can be unlocked for 99p on eBay.
Specs aren't great but running 4.1 with 512MB RAM is pretty good for the price.

Or you could look at something from China like the ZTE V889S which is Dual Core and comes i around £45

Looking at buying used, I would say just make sure it has at least 512MB RAM and at least Android 2.3
Phones I'm quite fond of that should be attainable in your budget from eBay include
Motorola Defy, any of the 2011 Xperia devices (Ray, Mini, Mini Pro)
Offers for £45 have been accepted on these HTC Desire S

Except it's far inferior to the Alcatel
It has a much slower processor (and it's only ARMv6), Less RAM, Stuck on 2.3, 160MB Storage (vs 2GB on the S'Pop)

Also £55 is outside the OP's budget.

You should just take your phone down to CEX and get £39 for it (which is a good price for a garbage phone)
