Is it cheaper to get an iPhone 4 sent from the US?

Would it be cheaper to have an iPhone 4 sent from the US, or would I have to pay import tax?

You would have to pay VAT. If someone sends it over as gift it might get past customs, but chances are slim. Someone has to physically bring it with them as personal item to avoid paying VAT.
You still have to pay sales tax in US. There is no legal way around that.

Agree with above, much easier to just get it from the UK. At least then there's no chance of losing such a high value item in the post too.
