Orange has announced a few changes to its PAYG tariffs, and the upshot is that both calls and texts will be more expensive. Boo.
The network recently sought to soften users up with a message declaring that £10 top-ups on its Dolphin and Monkey plans would qualify for an additional 100 free texts. However a subsequent alert added that call rates would jump up by 5p.
Calls to landlines, mobiles and Orange voicemail are all 20p/min at the moment, however from July 1 they’ll creep up to 25p/min. As if that wasn’t enough of a kick in the teeth, text messages will also go up from 10p to 12p.
How do the rates compare? Check it out:
- Three: 26p/min
- O2 and Tesco Mobile: 25p/min
- Vodafone: 21p/min
- Orange and T-Mobile: 20p/min
- giffgaff, Virgin Mobile and Asda: 8p/min
Of course, there are all sorts of bolt-ons and offers muddying the PAYG waters, but it’s still fairly crappy news if you’re on Orange PAYG.
For your convenience, Orange has set up a special page, titled: “we’re making some changes to pay as you go”.
