China has played a huge part in Android’s ascension to global smartphone OS leader, with something stupid like 90% of Chinese smartphone owners opting for the green robot.
But the Chinese still have a place in their hearts for Apple, as evidenced by the iPhone 5 notching up 100,000 pre-orders in less than 24 hours.
China Unicom, the nation’s second largest network, told Sina Tech it took over 100,000 pre-orders on Day 1. The iPhone 5 will be released in China on December 14, having finally punched its way through China's red tape.
China plays a crucial part in determining global smartphone market share. Chinese manufacturer ZTE, for example, crept to fifth place in Q3, behind Apple, Samsung, Sony and RIM.
