Found a phone after work tonight and handed it into the police station. What happens if no one claims it?

In short: no. No, you won't get it. But I think it's great that you handed it in

As Jan said, you as the finder can't get: phones, tablets, laptops, PDAs etc back from the Police, even if they go unclaimed for 28 days. This is due to the fact that such devices almost always contain people's personal information, which the Police aren't at liberty to hand out. Such devices just hang around in the Police station until they get around to destroying them, unfortunately.
Props for being a nice guy, though. At the very least you've stopped some dirty criminal stealing all the personal information off of the phone. Hopefully the phone will be reunited with its rightful owner .
Honestly, I don't know if I'd have handed it in, knowing that there's no chance I could claim it back, even if the owner didn't collect it within 28 days. I'd probably have done my best to contact the owner (or his/her friends or family) via the phone and failing that just wiped it and kept it. After all, the Police won't try and find the owner, they'd just hang onto it in case the owner contacted them.
