How to connect Android phone to Windows XP?

I am trying to connect my new Android handset to my home computer, which is running Windows XP. I want to transfer some files to the phone. It doesn't seem to connect, it shows the removable disk F but keeps connecting and disconnecting. What can I do?

What handset? Do you 'mount' the disk? When you connect the phone, you should see a little usb-icon in the notification bar. Pull the bar down and click on 'mount disk'.
Also: in 'settings' -> usb/pc connection you should be able to set 'mass storage' connection as default. That way your phone will connect like a USB pendrive.

If it sees the drive, I'd say the cable might be faulty. Or the usb socket? Have you used it on another PC/Mac?

Also, what model Android?

Yeah, well... what phone? Have the drivers installed when you first connected the phone etc etc.... We are not psychic, by the way. We do need info.

I am having the same problem with my new Droid MINI (purchased 2/8/14 from Verizon. Tried everything with Verizon tech support an mobile protection tech support, I even took the computer (windows xp sp3) to the store w/o any luck. Same message over and over - "required section not found in INF". Can anyone help?

When I pull the nav bar (on the mini) I get a choice of connect ad media device > Media Device (MTP) and Camera (PTP) when selected PTP allous the transfer of still photos only, not video. But when select MTP does nothing. Regarding settings - please provide a detailed pathway. I appreciate the help but the (mini) simply fails to connect and transfer the necessary drivers and managers to a XP SP3 PC. I tried downloading these apps from Motorola and verizon sites w/o effect. Tried on two laptops and one desktop. If anyone has gotten the MINI to connect please provide very detailed instructions.

When you connet as MTP, and then you open the Start Meny of your PC and click on My Computer, the Mini is not listed as a device?

Sorry I'm asking, but have you installed KIES on your PC? Does KIES not see the Mini, either?

Hi - No, KIES seems to relate to samsung devised, why would I use it w/ a Motorola Mini?

No, the computer no longer even shows there is an "E" drive, it did before I let the supervisor at the Verizon store attempt to resolve the issue, last Saturday. I got them to extend the recission period for the new contract to 3/1 - i'm still on the fence about returning everything, i like the phones (2) but they should work as described on the Verizon specs, w/o all this BS. I shold not have to buy a Windows 7 machine to use this feature in the phone...

Sorry, for some reason I thought you were talking about a Galaxy Ace :)

Motorola Mini?
Right...

What about Panda's "Android PC Suite"?
I used it on an XP machine with a Moto G just 3 weeks ago?!!! https://ac1-downloads.phpnuke.org/en/c156517/android-pc-suite-free-download-full-review
