What should I do when my contract ends?

I’m happy with my phone and don’t want a new one yet. What’s the best deal for me to go on when my contract ends? Should I switch to PAYG or SIM-only?

Giff gaff do a payg £10 goody bag which gives you unlimited texts, data and 100 mins.
I'd do that if I were in your position.

I would have a look at sim only contracts. Im currently on a sim only with Virgin (800 mins Unlimited Texts and 1GB data) for £10 a month, and I get another 15% off that because im a student :)

Virgin tariff is @ £20.43 right now. You have a really good deal - suggest you hold on to it.

If you request to terminate your contract the network will try and tie you into a new 18/24 month contract. However, at the end of the day, once the contract period has expired, you're the boss and so, you're calling the shots. Its either give you what you want or you walk (to another network - but dont for get your P.A.C if you do leave).
Usually you can squeeze your network for a better contract. Either:

A) more mins/texts/data
B) a reduction on your currently monthly charge.

If you do renew your contract, make sure you get a good phone out of them (such as the iPhone) and sell it straight on eBay... it may just pay your contract for the next year or more.

Alternatively you could push for a sim only/monthly contract. That way it gives you the flexibility to leave at short notice (but on the downside you may not get such a good deal/phone if you try to switch to a 18/24 month contract).

Hope it goes well for you.
