Can I create photo albums on my HTC Desire?

All my HTC Desire photos are in one big album. Hundreds of them!

Yes you can! Simply put all you have to do with your phone connected up to your PC is divide the photos up into folders. I have different folders on the root of my SD card and the gallery app detects them all individually. You can also achieve this without a PC using an app like Astro, but it'll be a bit more finicky and time-consuming.

So you searched for this thread, which must have taken you ages, just so you wouldn't duplicate the topic. And then you posted the question again... when the answer is right above your post...? :|

So to ask the question again: Can I create an Album on my HTC Desire (without a computer attached.)

As far as I know: NO. Not in an easy way, anyways... You can use something like Astro file manager to create a new folder; paste your pics into it...but I believe it'll be a subfolder of DCIM in the gallery... But I could be wrong. I personally hate the Android gallery. It's all bling and whoosh and cool efects, but poor functionality. Where is the option to see ALL photos in one long list - sometimes that is much better than seeing 50 'albums'.

Anyways. You forgot to mention what firmware your Desire is on.

Also: as good as it would be to do it on the phone, once you have loadsa files stored onboard, it gets pretty tedious imho to arrange stuff on the phone. It really is easier to do that while connected to a PC. Once you created folders/albums that way, AT LEAST you know where to put new pics that you want to arrange on the phone.

Maybe there is a 3rd party app? I know for jailbreaked iPhones you can get Albums+ etc....

Well changing the drop down menu from albums at the top left to one of the other options can do that depending on how files are set up at least. As mine have no location set that option shows them all together. Other options are time which is quite neat, people and tags.

Don't even need to have loads of files on board as picasa web albums show up in gallery so that would make it harder to organise on phone.

The last option on that drop down menu suggests a better way to organise than folders tbh tags, but with one rather large problem, I can't find a way to set up/edit tags for photos on the phone. Certainly can't see one in the gallery. Can add tags to picasa ones on website at least.

I'm glad Android is so straight forward :p

Options and freedom make us fickle. We need more rigidity... we need Mitt...oh, wrong forum again. Freedom #yay... = MeeGo!

SERIOUSLY: I was joking. But tbh the Android gallery is one of the things I really dislike.
It's cool. For about 2 minutes. Beyond that it's toy-ish. Try dealing with 2000 photos +! The processing power is there, storage aplenty, but the pretty-look-at-me effects of the app get in the way. And I tried numerous 3rd party photo (viewer/organizer) apps. I find them all poor when you really just want raw functionality. That, of course, is just my opinion, and it doesn't mean Android is bad. But I do find there can be 'too much' freedom - like Mitt... doh

I feel shame being one vowel away from that mug...yay, Mitt...

I guessed you were joking, I just like to have debates on the internet about things, with someone I know won't revert to simply insulting my mother (or claiming they slept with her).

I actually agree with you, picture management in Android sucks, big time. Trying to manage anything more than about 100 photos becomes a poorly functioning, time wasting mess. I've also tried all sorts of gallery apps and photo managers and none come close to sticking my SD card in my laptop and dealing with the pictures on there instead.

As for too much freedom, that's not possible. It's just nowadays, people's definition of freedom seems to be warped. Am I still on about Android? I'll let that be up to you to decide.

I'm not sure that anything on a 4" screen is going to be a good way to handle large numbers of photos though. Dealing with them on a laptop is always likely to be preferable?

Not sure what the pretty look at me effects are though, gallery seems fairly basic rather than showy to me.

Anyway the russians will see to freedom in the end....

I may concede that we do need more Terminator films if it gets them to see some problems with this.

Unmanned strategic bombers sound grrrrreat...
But hey, O'Bummer already uses drones in the the fatherland and abroad.
Good times...

Yes, handling 2000+ pics on a desktop is the obvious choice. But a straightforwar all-photos list would make it easier to even just browse them.
But I guess different minds work differently!?
Still, I was amazed by the lack of 3rd party alternatives in the store. 500000 apps, not 1 simple, effects-free photo-viewer? (I even posted here somewhere asking for recommendations)

I've lost interest in photo albums, world politics is an infinitely more discussable issue. I really don't understand why countries waste all this money on ICBMs, self-flying nuclear capable bombers etc, no-one's ever going to use any of it nowadays.

The only people willing to use weapons of such indiscriminate destruction are terrorist groups, who don't have access to the multi-billion dollar hardware they'd need to carry out such a strike.

The only ever military use of a nuclear weapon was a sickening, needless test of an experimental weapon. The US didn't want to end the war (Japan had basically already lost), they simply wanted to "play". Why they needed to "play" twice, is beyond me. The dropping of the atom bomb on Hiroshima was, and still is, the world's most devastating recorded terrorist attack.

9/11 - Around 3000 dead and a (probably illegal) war started in retaliation.
Hiroshima - Around 70,000 dead instantly, rising to 90,000 - 166,000 by the end of 1945.

Oh and errr...photo viewers and managers on Android suck, maybe the introduction of the Samsung Galaxy Camera will change that.

well said, matt. One thing's for sure: they do not care about YOUR children ;)
They (wink wink) have been at war for every single day since 1776. Peace on earth.... People who think it matters whether BHO wins or MR: I envy you ;)

Just a question of scale I guess, but arming them with nukes does evoke thoughts of post apocalyptic sci-fi. Doomed, doomed.....

Well did say you can view all how I described above and it sounds more complex than it is.
There is Quickpic as another viewer but it doesn't let you view them all in one list so it's a bit too simple if anything.
