The Dark Knight Rises iOS preview

The Dark Knight Rises iOS previewLast month, we were promised an imminent Gameloft tie-in with the Dark Knight Rises movie, and I’m currently blasting - or more accurately punching - my way through it at the moment.

I had intended to review The Dark Knight Rises for iOS this afternoon, alas it’s officially the Longest Thing Ever (that’s what she said).

Without sounding like a negative Nancy, I immediately figured that The Dark Knight Rises the game would be crippled under the weight of expectation, and my logic is/was twofold.

Firstly, The Dark Knight Rises the mobile game is a direct tie-in with The Dark Knight Rises the movie (or "film", if you prefer), and there’s surely no way the former can live up to the latter. Without saying too much, The Dark Knight Rises, cinema edition, was absolutely fantastic.

And if history has taught us anything, it’s that games based on films are generally rubbish.

The second reason is that Batman: Arkham City on the Xbox and PS3 is arguably one of the best games of all time. It’s set a lofty precedent for all future Batman games.

So, lots to live up to. Can The Dark Knight Rises for iOS pull it out of the bag? Stay tuned for the review…

The answer

On its own merit not a bad game, compared to the film/Arkham City - missing the mark by some margin.

I thought it was quite good

I may have sounded a little too harsh, it's quite a good game but comparisons too Arkham City and The Dark Knight Rises are unfair. I would say that this game is an example of how mobile gaming still has a long way to go to match console/pc gaming (with console having some way to go to match PC too).
