N64oid, a Nintendo 64 emulator for Android, hit the Market yesterday, priced at £3.68. As with most emulators, N64oid is far from perfect, but it runs rather well for the most part.
The Nintendo 64 was arguably one of the best consoles of all time, and now you can play classics like Goldeneye, Mario 64 and Mario Kart on your Android phone.
The developers recommend running the app on a high-end Android device, such as the Nexus One, Nexus S or Samsung Galaxy S. Even then, despite the fact that these smartphones are way more powerful than the Nintendo 64, the frame-rate still drops at times. But again, that’s par for the emulator course.
The resourceful chaps at Download Squad point out that you can hook up your Wiimote instead of using the on-screen controls. They’ve posted a video on YouTube, with some Zelda: Ocarina of Time action.
There’s no lite version of the app to try out, but developer yongzh promises: “do expect it would be improved continuously and constantly.”
