New Dell tablet? Nope, it’s 3-4 years old

New Dell tablet? Nope, it’s 3-4 years oldThere was a mild ripple of excitement yesterday when Engadget posted some pictures of an odd-looking and previously unseen tablet from Dell.

The tablet in question features a 7in display, and – more interestingly – a slide-out QWERTY keyboard. As if that wasn’t unorthodox enough, the keyboard has a split design with a big fat Dell logo in the middle.

There’s also a rear camera on the back, but otherwise details are scarce. In any case, the specs are moot, as the tablet will never see the light of day. Huh?

It transpires that the pictures were taken by Tweakers earlier this week when they visited the Dell labs. The concept is apparently some three to four years old, and eventually evolved into the Dell Inspiron Duo.

Ah well, we enjoyed the excitement while it lasted. Goodbye, strange tablet. We hardly knew ye.

looks like an oqo to me. Which did see the light of day

Quick history lesson, OQO's were on the market, before Microsoft even announced the UMPC idea

Ah crap, I was also pretty excited about this, a 7" tablet with a slide out Keyboard? That would be awesome.

@pierobosco22 - You are right, the oqo's were out first and were/still are amazing devices, its just a shame the company folded before the tablet revolution and they were never able to get an Android tablet out or get the windows ones to a stage where one could playback 720p/1080p
