What's the difference between blue and green messages on an iPhone?

Just got my first iPhone! :D

How come some messages are blue and others are green? People that are green are always green, and people that are blue are always blue!

You obviously have iMessages enabled on your new iPhone.
Recipients that also have iMessage capable devices will get iMessages when you send a "text", others will get regular SMS messages. The normal SMS messages and conversations are GREEN, iMessage conversations are BLUE.
I never use iMessage when I use iDevices - we get laodsa free SMS here in Ireland with our monthly allowances, and since I never use them all up, I may as well use those, and avoid the confusion in the process...

ALSO: make sure when you permanently stop using your iPhone for whatever reason that you degister your iPhone via Apple's Support pages. If you don't, people you always talked with by iMessages may not get your SMS once you start using a non-Apple phone.
