What difference do classes make to micro SD cards?

With SD cards, what difference do classes make? Do they only affect speed?

In theory class identifies speed.
In actual life they are pretty much useless. You get what you pay for. Sandisk extreme cards are rated as class 6 and outperform most of class 10 cards. Play class 10 struggles to beat Sandisk class 4. I have PNY Class 4 that works faster than Transcend Class 10.
Pay more money and get a brand name.

That said, my Class 2 Sandisk is a bit of slowpoke. Whatever brand you get, I'd recommend Class 4 as an absolute minimum.
