And whom does Digitimes credit these iPad 4 whispers to? Why anonymous iPad 4 component suppliers of course. Anyone else for salt?
Essentially, the story goes like this: iPad 3 with HD display in March, followed by an iPad 4 with “killer applications” in October.
The HD iPad 3 stuff chimes with what we’ve been hearing for the past, well, ages. In fact, it shouldn’t come as any great surprise, as the iPad 2 touched down last year with exactly the same resolution as the first iPad.
Interestingly, the sources suggest that – other than the HD display and increased battery life – the iPad 3 specs “may not be so amazing as expected”. Well, we are talking about Apple, after all. If anyone knows how to milk it with minor upgrades…
And again, we’re hearing that the iPad 2 will stick around and drop to $399.
As for the iPad 4, well it’ll be timed to steal some of the spotlight from Windows 8 when it arrives on the tablet scene later this year. The sources suggest the iPad 4 will have “much upgraded hardware specifications”.
Finally, they concur with the rumour we heard a couple of days ago about Google working on a budget Nexus tablet to take on the Amazon Kindle Fire. Hmm, we’ll see.
