DigiTimes: loads of Apple and Samsung tablets will be sold over ChristmasHere’s one any random guy on the street could’ve probably told you: Apple and Samsung will sell tons of tablets in the holiday quarter.

More specifically, “Taiwan-based tablet supply chain makers” have supposedly adjusted their estimates for both Apple and Samsung, with many millions of additional units expected to ship in 4Q13.

DigiTimes says its sources have upped their Apple iPad estimates from just under 20 million to 23-25 million units. That’s a lot of iPads.

As for Samsung tablets, the sources reckon shipments will hit 12 million, up a fair bit from the original estimate of 10 million and change.

Brilliantly, we’re told: “There has been large demand for the iPad Air and iPad mini with Retina display since their launch”. Gimme a sec while I pick my jaw up off the floor.

With further credit going to Canalys, the sources predict Apple will ship 85 million iPads next year, with Samsung moving 50 million of its various Galaxy Tabs and what have you in 2014.

Next year might well see the introduction of a larger iPad, possibly named the iPad Pro, with a focus on education and enterprise. Similarly, we’re told a Samsung Galaxy Note 12.2 is in the works.
