DigiTimes: Samsung to undercut Google with $149 tablet?

DigiTimes: Samsung to undercut Google with 9 tablet? It’s been too long since we looked to DigiTimes for some outrageous rumour action. To be fair, this story isn’t that mental. For the most part.

The DigiMen propose that Samsung will release three tablets this year, which isn’t exactly far-fetched, but the smallest is tipped to sell for less than the Asus-built Google Nexus 7.

The amusing thing here is that DigiTimes doesn’t bother mentioning a source. Nary a mention of component makers or the upstream supply chain.

Anyway! They’re saying that Samsung will release a 7in, 8in and 10.1in tablet in 2013. It’s not clear if that 8in chap is the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0, which JK Shin has confirmed for Mobile World Congress.

As for the 7in tablet, DT reckons it’ll be priced between $149 and $199. The Google Nexus 7 sells for $199 (16GB) and $249 (32GB).

While we’re talking prices, the 8in tablet will supposedly be price around $249-299, sitting snugly between the 7in model and the $329 iPad mini.

And that’s the end of that. We don’t have any beef with the proposed sizes, but maybe take the prices with a pinch of salt for now.

Couple of years and EVERY secondary school kids will have to get one - the way now they need a scientific calculator. No doubt. Then they'll learn to really hate tablets :p
The abacus and notepad will be back.

Samsung smacks of desperation to me in the tablet space, unless they just can't shift the tablet's they've made. Everywhere you look it seems to be buy this Samsung product and get a Galaxy Tab free and so much cashback.

They can undercut the Nexus but will they actually meet the Nexus 7 on performance? the current 7" Galaxy tab falls quite a bit short on Googles offering, if they had a Exynos 4412 inside I'd see it being a very nice alternative.
