Disable data for specific Android apps

On Android, can you change app permissions for individual apps, for example to stop an app going online and using data?

Yeah, guys... what's the best way to do this?

Settings- data usage. Then select the desired app from the list. Tick box at restrict background data.

That way it will only use data if you open the app up.

If you go to settings> Data counter/Management> click on the app that's using data> there should be an option to restrict background data.

Thanks... seems I did that already, yet apparently I used 50MB last night without even an email account set up on 'my' M8. Maybe the NSA will refund those €0.45?

On the HTC One M8 in my hand the option you guys mentioned only applies
to mobile data, by the way. Doesn't even register WiFi usage. That is idiotic!

Yup I don't think you can change it for WiFi at all, its either on or off. I don't think you can on ios or anything else either.

If you want to check what apps are using your data or WiFi and when they are, this is a good app:

True - it's equally idiotic on iOS.
As if clever spyware cannot be written to use WiFi only...

Thanks for the link.

Thanks... I actually no longer use Android for anything of privacy concern...
But will play with those firewalls.
