Is it possible to disable SMS on phones?

Is there any way to disable texting completely on phones?

The only way I can think that might work (and this depends on the phone and possibly the network) is to change the Message Service Centre number. I've dealt with people in the past no able to send SMS messages due to using their old SIM in a new phone, and it's been the settings missing for their network which caused the problem. So this could in fact be your solution.
What phone do you have and what is the network?

What an interesting question.
I doubt it - networks use the technology for servcice messages, settings etc...
In some phones you can disable outgoing texging, and I suppose you could use 'blacklist' apps and simply block all incoming numbers for sms?!

Yes,
mrew is right, in many phones you can manually edit the sms service centre address. But mind you: you should be aware of the fact that your network quite frequently adjusts service settings. Often you would not even notice as the enduser (those adjustments normally only kick in after you reboot your phone). By disabling sms the harsh way, you would effectively disable those settings updates as well. Which is why I doubt your network will help you with that one - plus, they do make money from certain sms advertisements ;)
