Dixons Retail exclusive pre-order thingy for Sony Tablet S

Dixons Retail exclusive pre-order thingy for Sony Tablet SDixons Retail, the parent company of Currys, PC World and of course Dixons, has scored an “exclusive window” for Sony Tablet S pre-orders. Presumably that means it’ll be available from other retailers at launch on September 16. Or something.

I keep saying I like these new Sony tablets – the Tablet S and Tablet P – ‘cause they’re a wee bit different. Alas, something that’s not different is the pricing. For f…

Right, I’m no marketing genius, but why the furg would you release a tablet and price it identically to the utterly dominant iPad. What the furg? Has Sony been living under a furging rock? Sigh.

So for £399.99 you can grab yourself a 16GB Wi-Fi only iPad 2 or a 16GB Wi-Fi only Sony Tablet S. Why would Joe Public suddenly turn his back on the tried-and-tested iPad 2? I am genuinely really quite angry right now.

For £499.99 you can throw in some 3G action, or double your storage to 32GB. So the latter is actually £20 more expensive than the iPad 2 equivalent. Jesus. Actual. Christ.

Specs? Android 3.1 (Honeycomb), 9.4in display, Tegra 2 dual-core processor, front and rear cameras, Flash support.

I’m done.

Or wait until November when amazon release their new 7" tablet for $250 (and no doubt £250).

@Monkey nuts 2
The $139 Kindle is £111 here, so I don't think Amazon would be that stingy.

Sony and Playstation is a well known and trusted multimedia tech brand and to be fair this tablet looks damn sexy. Until now all the tablets have been generic and not had much brand backing or shown they do anything different to the iPad.

Show people Playstation games and stuff like TV guide+remote, plus Android features like widgets on a sexy looking tablet and they'll think twice about the iPad, that doesn't do as much and just looks like a big iPhone.

All it needs is a decent POS display and some TV ads and people will buy it.

The Xperia Play hasn't benefited from the Sony or Playstation brands and the Motorola Xoom has had a huge marketing push, with Superbowl advertising in the US. It's price, combined with the desirability of Apple products by the ignorant that's giving the iPad it's lead at the moment.
The Amazon tablet, if priced correctly, should make a serious dent in the iPad's lead, as long as the raft of third party support given to Apple for cases and other accessories get behind it it'll succeed.

The thing is that motorola and sony are competing with each other as they are both andorid os you can say android is competing with each other which costs so much more as the items are mainly the same.
