Can you download Amazon MP3 music straight onto an iPhone/iPod (sometimes it's cheaper), or does iOS only let you use iTunes?

Amazon's MP3s are DRM-free, so you can download them to your PC and sync them...
Since Amazon treat Irish customers like sh*t, I can't tell you more, cause, well, they can k*ss my butt!
But they have a mobile friendly store to avoid having to give Apple a share of the sales price. There you can buy, play and download tracks using Safari => http://arstechnica.com/apple/2013/01/hands-on-amazon-mp3-store-specifically-for-iphone-and-ipod-touch/
