what does a dual-core processor do?

Other than drain your battery? :P
Does it improve overall performance, like even flicking through menus??

more efficent so helps improve battery life
menus have smoother animation
intensive tasks, such as games, load faster
better multitasking as you don't rely on a single processor
some games and programs are only possible with dual-core

Also it's a gloating tool.
