How easy is it to install the official HTC Desire Gingerbread update?

What would I need to do to install Gingerbread on my HTC Desire? I'm not familar with rooting or any of that stuff.

You need;
Your USB cable
A PC with HTC Sync (you can download this if you don't have it)
Your phone
That's it!

It's a piece of cake as all the hard work is automated. Once you've plugged in your Desire, run the .exe, it'll detect it then then update it. Just make sure your contacts and SMS history is backed up and you read the supplied Readme carefully.

There's a useful guide here which I followed with no problems.

no, everest, with the Desire it is a bit more complicated, because HTC made it optiona. It is a stripped down version of the OS because the Desire has limited storage....

just checked the wifes phone, software version is 2.3.3 this is the gingerbread update. the desire-z must have got the full version then and its the "desire" thats tricky to update. the desire-z has a sliding qwerty keyboard btw.
