How easy is it to transfer data from one Android phone to another?

How easy is it to transfer data from one Android phone to another? My two biggest concerns are contacts and apps. Thanks!

Carbon - doesn't require root to backup your apps and data.
As far as contacts go, just synch with Google (accounts -> Google -> Contacts and press the circle thingy ). When you get your next phone and log into it with the same google account it will automatically Sync your number to the new phone.

You can back up apps to the SD card or PC with something like Astro file manager.
Contacts? => share => select all => email yourself
