We mentioned EE's likely interest in the HTC First last night, and it turns out it's far more than just interest: EE has full exclusivity on the Facebook Home-wielding smartphone.
Getting sole rights to the First marks a high-profile victory for the 4G network, but the downside is you'll have to wait all the way to the Summer to get your hands on it.
That's in stark contrast to Facebook fundis over in the US, who'll be able to buy the HTC First for $99 a week from today. EE doesn't specify exactly when in the summer it's looking at, but you just need to take a step out the front door to realise we're still a long way off from being anywhere near the Summer.
“The HTC First will be exclusively available this summer on EE’s superfast 4GEE service, with details on pricing and availability to be announced in due course,” is EE's official statement.
What makes the HTC First so special? Simply that it's the only phone to come with the newly announced Facebook Home pre-integrated. Aside from that, it's a decidedly middling piece of hardware, so really if you're not sold by Facebook Home it's probably not for you.
On top of that, EE is promising a few extras to sweeten the deal: EE Film, a movie service which includes 2-for-1 offers, a £5 discount on EE's fibre broadband, fast-track customer service, and a free back-up service called Clone Phone Lite.
We'll pass on more details when we get 'em.
