Nokia’s CEO, Stephen Elop, has never been one to bite his tongue, and now claims that dual- and quad-core processors in smartphones are nothing more than battery killers.
HTC One X? Samsung Galaxy Note? iPhone 4S? Chuck it in the bin and grab yourself a Nokia Lumia 900.
Speaking to China’s Yangcheng Evening News, Elop screamed: "The so-called dual-core, quad-core mobile phones can only waste batteries, but not be useful for consumers all the time".
Of course, for now, the Windows Phone chassis only supports hardware with single-core processors.
Over in China, Nokia is launching a competition called ‘Blown Away by Lumia’, challenging peeps with rival handsets to perform everyday tasks with roughly £100 on the line.
It’s much the same as Microsoft’s ‘Smoked by Windows Phone 7’ promotion, which ran at CES, Mobile World Congress, and in Microsoft stores.
Elop claims that the Nokia Lumia 900 has never lost to an iPhone or Android handset, regardless of the number of cores. Needless to say, Nokia and Microsoft pick the tasks at these challenges. Ahem.
