Eric Schmidt: Ice Cream Sandwich landing October/November

Eric Schmidt: Ice Cream Sandwich landing October/NovemberIt’s widely expected that Ice Cream Sandwich will arrive in Octoberish, but that’s despite the lack of any official word from Google since May’s I/O event.

Well, Google’s Eric Schmidt has given credence to the rumours by stating – in an oddly matter of fact way – that Ice Cream Sandwich will land in October or November. Excellent.

Schmidt, a former presidential advisor with an estimated net worth of $7 billion, made the announcement during an interview with's Marc Benioff.

Ice Cream Sandwich promises to unite Android smartphone and tablet users, by combining elements of Gingerbread and Honeycomb into one all-encompassing OS.

Recent leaks showed Ice Cream Sandwich running on the Samsung-developed Google Nexus S. The changes appear to be largely cosmetic. For example, the green of Gingerbread has been replaced with a nice blue. Exciting.

It’s anticipated that Ice Cream Sandwich will make its debut on a spanking new Google Nexus phone, as with Gingerbread and the aforementioned Nexus S.

hmm i have trouble getting excited about this update, unlike for previous updates. they usually tell us what new cool features we can expect. but this we are just told it will 'unify tablets and mobiles' but what does that actually mean for me as a non tablet user? how is my phone going to be better? wish they'd leak more information
