Is there an ETA for the Samsung Galaxy Note?

The Samsung Galaxy Note looks great! Is there a vague release date yet?

Common sense, if they announced at IFA the it'll be out for xmas (otherwise they'd have saved it for CES in January). In order to get lots of sales/pre-orders, they'll have to launch a month or two before xmas so people have a chance to buy the thing. There hasn't been any official word on the release date yet. This is all as long as Apple don't try and Sue Samsung over the Note, if they do, it could delay the release or have it banned in some territories.

Apart from Q4 2011, no. It'll probably come out at the end of Oct. start of Nov. kind of time, ready for Christmas.

Maybe I was wrong, this is a tweet from Samfirmware.com...sad face :(. Apparently Samsung were struggling on the common sense front...

I think it would be a very sick and twisted joke if Apple tried to ban the Note. Let's hope they can't think of a reason to.

Blizzard, I've just posted a photo of a tweet from Samfirmware.com which says the note isn't being released in the UK until Q1 2012. You can't see it though as it's awaiting approval of a moderator. Where's Jan when you need him :p? Anyway, this is Apple we're talking about, sick and twisted joke are their middle names. They'll pull some touchscreen patent bulls**t, as they don't actually have a device out that's anything like the note. After all, the Tab 7.7 has been pulled from display at IFA due to the patent claims Apple have made...they're such an underhand company, I can't stand their business practices. With Jobs gone as CEO, his bitchy, underhand ways live on...yay.

Gotta love the mod approval system on Mobot ;)

I can understand protecting aspects of a device that are genuinely original and specific, but I personally can't stand it when companies try to sue because of a vague patent.

Look at the Windows vs. Mac OS X side of things. When Apple launched Mac OS X Tiger, I remember they cheekily used the headline "Redmond, start your photocopiers", poking fun that the delayed Vista seemed to copy a lot of functions Tiger had. Spotlight search became Instant Search and widgets on Mac becoming gadgets on Vista. But Apple didn't sue Microsoft, because let's face it, they wouldn't stand a chance. Copied or not, trying to patent something like that will just result in two lop-sided OSs with deficiencies on both sides.

It's the same with phones/ tablets. There is the odd patent I agree with, but others are just plain dumb.

I love the moderating system, as a regular contributer, my picture is really likely to be inappropriate or spam :p.

I agree with you 100%. When there's a genuine need to protect intellectual property, then it's fine to file a patent lawsuit. If someone is stealing something that's yours you have a right to stop them, or make them pay for it. The thing is a) most of Apple's patent lawsuits are utter crap nowadays and b) they're not interesting in licencing out their patents (as Microsoft do to HTC), they just want to crush all the competition, (namely Samsung at the moment as they're the hottest android device manufacturer this year). They annoyingly seem to have a way of convincing judges they're right as well. Though with Samsung that could have a lot to do with the altered images that Apple keep producing as "evidence", in courts around the world.

plus they keep going to trial when samsung arent present ;) in order to defend themselves lol

Matt question is that from twitter and if so are u sure its a samsung operated one. i follow samsung uk and samsung mobiles on twitter and they both say atm they have no confirmed ETA.

matt101101 / MOD  Sep. 4, 2011 at 22:48

No, it's from Samfirmware's Twitter, they're not official but they specialise in acquiring leaked pre-release Samsung firmware and leaked Samsung information...and they're good at it as well. They are a great resource if you own a Samsung device. They're usually right when they say something....in this case, I hope they're wrong for once...I doubt it though.

Nuts. i was hoping for earlier than that so the samsung galaxy s2 was cheaper.

matt101101 / MOD  Sep. 5, 2011 at 18:32

Told you Samfirmware.com were good :p.

Treab  Sep. 5, 2011 at 19:02

dont gloat you :P

matt101101 / MOD  Sep. 5, 2011 at 19:10

Sorry :p. I'm not actually pleased I was right, oddly. I wanted it available before Christmas. Also my "best answer", is now, well, wrong :(.... #mixedemotions

Treab  Sep. 5, 2011 at 23:00

of course it could just be their way of putting people off the scent...

but with galaxy w,r and m looking like they are coming this year sammy have a decent on-going line up to boost the samsung galaxy s-2

Treab  Sep. 5, 2011 at 23:00

double post fail.

blizzard7  Sep. 5, 2011 at 23:17

The Galaxy S 2 is still selling like hotcakes regardless and the Galaxy Note is a bit of a niche product anyway, so I don't think it's a disaster if it comes out after Christmas.

matt101101 / MOD  Sep. 5, 2011 at 23:18

Don't worry only one of your posts shows up on my screen :p. I doubt it's Samsung trying to confuse the press and other people. They'd want to get it to market ASAP. The galaxy S2 looks set to remains king of Smartphones for 2011, as from what I've heard the iPhone 5 is nothing to special. A5 1ghz dual core processor and a 3.7inch screen, wow, world changing, I can hardly contain my excitement...oh no they were beaten to it by LG 6 months ago.

Treab  Sep. 5, 2011 at 23:31

oh yeah dont get me wrong the samsung s-2 will sell even when the note is out but tbh with sammy seemingly releasing 6 phones this year alone i can see why the note is being given extra time to make the software perfect.

matt101101 / MOD  Sep. 5, 2011 at 23:47

To sell at all the note needs to be bloody fantastic otherwise people will just buy the galaxy S2 instead. If the note is any less than perfect, it just won't sell...price reductions ftw ;). Personally on reflection I think I'll be giving the note a miss, the galaxy S3 will probably be my next new expensive toy :p.

Treab  Sep. 6, 2011 at 00:38

your assuming this wont become the galaxy s3 ;)

matt101101 / MOD  Sep. 6, 2011 at 01:09

Nah, the galaxy S3 will be quad core. It'll also have to have better than an 8mp camera. The stylus wouldn't be on the galaxy S3 either, it's to much of a tabletesque feature for a flagship smartphone. Notice how Samsung aren't marketing the note as the successor to the SGS2 but more of an entirely different product line?
