What does an exclamation mark on the myTouch 4G battery mean?

What does it mean if there's an exclamation mark on the myTouch 4G battery icon?

Yes, it could be all sorts of things - it's just a general "battery SOS". Some users had to get a new battery, others just needed to reboot, or charge the battery to 100%...
dizzy, as always, we can only be as specific as the question is.
You'd need to tell us more for us to troubleshoot. DID the phone get wet? DOES it feel warm? DID the exclamation mark appear after an unusual "event" (prolonged gaming/downloading/a new app/new rom etc).

I'm not sure, but I think it means your phone cannot properly communicate with the battery - possibly due to dampness. Take the battery out. let the phone and battery dry. Then try again after a good'n'proper recharge.

Anyone else?

Overheating can cause the same problem. I pushed my Desire too hard when it was OC'd and the battery had a strop about being too warm. Saying that, I get the feeling the OP hasn't OC'd the phone so I don't know what else can cause the issue. Battery hardware malfunction, maybe?

As Jan said, anyone else?

Jan's right, we're not just being mean or obtuse, the exclamation mark on HTC phones on the battery indicator is a general "battery issue warning".

Personally, it went away when I let the phone cool down but I assume this is a prolonged issue for you as you've taken the time to ask for help (which we'll happily provide :)).

All we need is a little more info, basically under what circumstances did the exclamation mark first appear?

Steven,
before you bought a new battery, did you try a different charger or USB cable?
From all I could find online, it seems as often as a faulty battery, a faulty charger or socket causes that exclamation mark to pop up.

I had the same issue. I took the SD card out and everything seems ok. I must have something corrupt on the card that is affecting the phone.
