Can I keep my existing antiquated talk plan with a brand new phone?

Sorry if this is a stupid question! It's just I have a really good contract which I have had for quite a few years, but I'd like to keep it and get a new phone. Can I just buy any phone and put my sim in it?

As far as I know, yes, you can. Here in Ireland at least that is how tge cookies crumble. I know of many folks here who are on tariffs that no longer exist, but they regularly upgrade their phones... However, I stress - I'm talking about Ireland, and though we're all in the same EU, T&C's may vary... Maybe someone else can chime in. Or you just phone your network provider's customer care.

If you buy an unlocked phone, you can put any SIM card in it. This means your existing texts and minutes transfer over. Technically your provider can tell you’ve switched phones, but realistically they won’t notice (or care, to be blunt). When the iPhone was released in the UK, a huge proportion of people chose to unlock them rather than go with O2.
