FAO: JanSt: Connection issue on my Nokia E5

OK so following your recommendation I bought the E5 and ditched the Desire Z (ok well its on ebay now). However, for some reason on the home screen it keeps asking me to select a connection (with the option to search for wifi or choose the current 02 prepay choices).

Do you know how I stop this happening? I havent been playing aorund with the phone enough yet to figure it out (no time). So I thought I would ask the maestro... ;)

settings - connectivity - wlan - disable wifi scanning. Also in connectivity you see a little icon that look like a person - check your access points (APN). You can delete unnecessary APs, set defaults and priorities (ie, wifi over network or no wifi or just 1 particular AP).
And of course, you can remove that widget from the homescreen.
My E5 is on my desk at work, but let me know how you're getting on.

oh, in connectivity check 'destinations' - that is where you switch to manual wlan etc...

Aaaaargh!
its still happening! :3

JanSt / MOD  Apr. 19, 2011 at 12:50

impossible. Can you post a screenshot?
What exactly does the widget 'say'?

JanSt / MOD  Apr. 19, 2011 at 12:53

in 'destination', you set wifi-scanning' to 'manual', right? So what is happening now on your homescreen?
Also: press and hold the call-end button. You should be offered to disconnect any active web connections. What are they?

shuwaz  Apr. 19, 2011 at 13:08

Doh!
I pressed and held the call-end button and it powered off... its been a long day.

We'll be right back after this restart. :p:p

nah its still there!

So, grrrr... you set wifi scanning to manual? you set one network APN as default? and it still bothers you with that choice to pick a network? And that is the notification pop-up, not a widget, right? Weird. Is it network branded?
Mine is Vodafone, but it didn't even scan for wifi out of the box...
Can you access the web, by the way?
I'd really like to see the screenshot...it's so weird!

It doesn't seem as frequent now.

When I hold down the call-end/power button I dont get an option to disconnect any active connections though - just to activate power saving mode.

I'm out and about so I'll try and pin up a s/shot asap.

Shuwaz,
I'm just wondering: is that the email set-up wizard asking you to pick a connection?
Have you set up an email account, yet?

shuwaz  Apr. 20, 2011 at 10:52

I already have gmail and gmx setup (since the day I got it).
i get the popup but its not as frequent now.

Probably going to call into my local nokia repair centre, see if they can sort it out.

Seems odd, yeah.
Let me know what they come up with. ;)

JanSt / MOD  Apr. 23, 2011 at 14:46

what's up, shuwaz?

shuwaz  Apr. 23, 2011 at 14:52

I havent had a chance to take it to the NRC yet. Been messing with a HD projector I got. Trying to find out if the bulb has gone or the lens.

May go today or tomorrow.

Problem has to do with your Gmail-account. I have the same phone, same problem.

Go 'Menu > Internet > Email > Settings > Gmail > Mailbox Settings > Advanced mailb. settings'
Click 'Incomings email settings' and change 'Acces point in use' from 'Always ask' to 'User defined'
Click 'Outgoing email settings' and change 'Acces point in use' from 'Always ask' to 'User defined'

Hope this works

Myself and a friend have the same problem with the Nokia E5. She doesn't have gmail so I can't see it being an email problem. Just now and then a pop-up on screen asks which network to use? WLAN or O2 Active. Tried de-activating 'auto search' and still problem there :-( Might have to give O2 a call,,,, watch this space!!

That really shouldn't happen if wifi scanning is deactivated.
Also, have you read the 3rd post from the top about default access points?

You mean the sms message centre address is incorrect?
Do you know the correct address? If so, somewhere in the messaging settings you can edit the address.
You could also ring your network's customer care; explain the issue. They can send you the correct settings with a service message. Once you receive the settings, save. Reboot. Done.

If my reply makes no sense, it is partly because your question is a bit cryptic ;)

You gotta offer all the details if you want all the answers :p
(you don't mention your network; you don't say what message type - sms/mms/email etc)

And what do you mean "for 1 contact it has its reply centre already defined? It oughta be the same for all... Do ALL other contacts work? Then delete the faulty contact.

Go to Control Panel --> settings --> connections --> destinations --> options --> default connection --> change from ask always to one you want to use.
