Any preference as to what OS it runs (if it runs one at all and isn't a feature phone)?

Actually, scratch that; every iOS, WP7 & Android device has a touchscreen and you discounted BBs in your question. That leaves you with just feature phones (or dead/dying OS' such as Symbian and Windows Mobile).

Yeah, just want a well built phone that works well and looks nice (not for me)

What, then, are the "good features" you want? And does it need to be a smartphone?

Samsung Tocco Ultra? That was the last "feature phone" I owned and I thought it was pretty good.

Is that the slider?

Yeah, AMOLED screen and a pretty good camera too (though I only ever saw pictures on the phone's screen).

Remember it now, good phone, though, the colour scheme was not my thing.

I had an all black one, not the red in the picture above.

Oh, okay - here in Ire-land we only got that red one ;)

Black S8300, far more...tasteful.

Thanks, by good phone I just meant above average and can basically do simple things like call and text and work well. Will probably check out the Samsung but are there any cheaper alternatives?

xbox-360-elite  Mar. 4, 2012 at 17:45

The ultra is quite expensive! By cheap I mean about 30 quid. Just needs to be a basic but good phone that can call and text.
Thank you

Nokia C1-01 £24.95 plus mandatory £10 top-up (unless you buy it instore and provide a number on the same network then they'll wave the mandatory top-up. Basically just buy it on your current network, CPW phones are unlocked anyway).

If you really do only want to call and text, I'd recommend the Samsung E1080 from Carphonewarehouse, it's £2.95 with the same top-up conditions as I wrote about up there ^^^^^.

Here's a link and image:

thanks for the help

xbox-360-elite  Mar. 4, 2012 at 21:50

although it is just for basic needs, it'd rather the phone actually is quite good and modern, if you know what i mean.

xbox-360-elite  Mar. 5, 2012 at 21:07

i think the Samsung above isn't very good so is there any other phone which is around £30 that's better? preferably with a larger screen too.
thanks

matt101101 / MOD  Mar. 5, 2012 at 21:15

Erm, I'll have a look into the matter for you. Check back in about 15 mins and I'll have found at least one alternative :).

matt101101 / MOD  Mar. 5, 2012 at 21:22

Nokia C2-01, it's a bit more money but it's a generally better phone.

xbox-360-elite  Mar. 5, 2012 at 23:16

Thank you. Seems ideal. Thanks for the help

Thing is, the person I'm looking for the phone for has the above Samsung or a really similar one and its quite and receives texts slow-will the Nokia mentioned above be similar? Also, is there anything good in the 80 pounds bracket? Thanks a lot
