The first Firefox OS handsets, unveiled at Mobile World Congress earlier this year, were unanimously hailed as laggy and ultimately disappointing compared to low-end Android efforts.
However, that hasn’t stopped the Firefox OS-based ZTE Open selling out on eBay in just three short days. What the…?
The ZTE Open went on sale on eBay in both the US and the UK last week, priced $79.99 and £59.99 respectively, but the listings have now ended.
On the closed UK listing, 990 ZTE Open units appear to have been sold, with a similar number thought to have shifted stateside. So that's, uhm, around 2,000 total.
Feeling left out? Fear not. A spokesperson for the Chinese manufacturer tells ZDNet: "We will make more [ZTE] Open available on eBay in September.”
ZTE Open specs include a 3.5in display (480 x 320), single-core Qualcomm MSM7225A processor, 256MB of RAM, 512MB of internal storage, and a 3.2MP rear camera.
Of course, the ZTE Open isn’t necessarily intended to take on the big names. Instead, it’ll focus on emerging markets.
Dare I ask, did anyone here take the plunge and buy a ZTE Open? I kinda wish I had now, just for poops and giggles.
