What is the flower icon on my locked ipad screen?

Sometimes a little flower icon appears on my ipad's locked screen, not sure what it is.

Please there is an icon that appears near the battery status it looks like a little padlock in a circle. What's that icon and what's its use?

That icon controls the lockscreen slideshow. Some people are vary of that feature, because it gives others a glimpse at your pictures, even though the iPad is locked.
There is an option in Settings > General > Passcode Lock where you can disable the feature. Not sure whether this applies to all iOS versions though?

Found it in the settings, but I can only disable the slideshow feature if I set a passcode lock. Thanks

That lock is the auto-rotation lock indicator. It means you disabled autorotation of the screen.
