Get free stuff with Apple’s 12 Days of Christmas app

Get free stuff with Apple’s 12 Days of Christmas appApple isn’t exactly renowned for being wallet friendly, but once a year the Californians reluctantly succumb to the spirit of Christmas and give away lots of free stuff.

Yes, it’s time once again for Apple’s 12 Days of Christmas app, which brings free junk from iTunes from December 26 to January 6.

The free content will be available for 24 hours, and the astute among you may have noticed that the 12 Days of Christmas promotion started yesterday. That means you’ve potentially missed out on – wait for it – a Coldplay EP and accompanying video. Ahem.

I’d open the app and tell you what the free 12 Days of Christmas gift for December 27 is, but it’s not freaking compatible with the 2nd generation iPod touch. Bah.

You can, however, grab the free 12 Days of Christmas app from the App Store if you have an iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPad, or iPod touch 3rd or 4th generation. Oh, and iOS 4.3 or above.

If it’s anything like previous years, we expect free music, apps, books and movies to be on the 12 Days of Christmas menu. Not too shabby.

You can download things without the app via iTunes directly. So it should work for everything inc 2nd gen touches. Just search for the title on iTunes. You can still download past content for free, e.g. yesterday was:

" The Trip: Middle East Special "
" The Trip: Hipping Hall "

Today is http://itunes.apple.com/gb/album/marry-the-night-single/id486798428

You don't even need an iOS device.

Gah, first day was Coldplay and second was Top Gear and then they ruined it by having "Lady" Gaga today, silly Apple

Missed the Coldplay stuff :( any chance I can still get it?

jmarcelino  Dec. 28, 2011 at 17:58

Silly? You clearly haven't watched today's video Stelph...

Just skip the first minutes of pseudo-drama.

Huh? It plays on your HTC Flyer and Dell Venue Pro? Have they removed the DRM then?

All music videos on iTunes have been DRM free for ages. Think it was at the same time as the music itself.

The videos offered so far are all music videos, even if Lady Gaga's was a slightly longer and cinematic version.

I refuse to acknowledge that Gaga until she behaves like a normal person.

An eBook today, The Redbreast by Jo Nesbo. Never heard of it but its got great reviews so why not, doubt ill read it on my iPhone mind

I don't give a monkeys about music videos, what about the Top Gear videos. I would download them myself but that would mean capping my speed.

jmarcelino  Dec. 29, 2011 at 11:02

TV shows and movies are obviously DRM protected, like any other legit site that I know of.

I'm sure you can find a nice DRM-free version around somewhere though. The TopGear episode has been on TV several times already. I had seen it already, didn't get that one.

Fair enough, thanks. My point still stands :p
