Free tethering on new O2 tariffs. Sort of

Free tethering on new O2 tariffs. Sort ofO2 has published its new pay monthly tariffs, all of which include free tethering. That’s assuming you pick one of their three data bolt-ons. None of the tariffs include data as standard.

The prices are summed up in a neat little table (check it out on O2's pay monthly page), however data isn’t factored in. To access the internet on your O2 phone, you’ll have to pick one of the following bolt-ons:

  • The Basics - 100MB, £3 a month
  • The All Rounder - 500MB, £6 a month
  • The Works - 1GB, £10 a month

Those prices aren’t quite so bad when you consider that O2 used to charge £7.65 for tethering.

There are seven different tiers, ranging from 50 minutes and 250 texts to unlimited minutes and texts. The tariffs are available over 18 or 24 months, however existing customers have the option to upgrade with a 12-month contract, which, incidentally, costs the same as an 18-month contract for new customers.

So it's free so long as you pay extra for it ? are you people complete morons or are you just deliberately writing misleading headlines?

I believe that with most mobile networks you have to buy a special iPhone tethering plan if you wish to tether with your iPhone (and not just use the data on the phone itself). In this case with o2 you just need the data plan (which you may be getting anyway).

I'm sorry but o2 are ripping people off with this.
I've been looking around for my next contract and it seems that 'Three' have the best coverage where I live, and totally unlimited data & tethering!
Not like now, with orange my 'unlimited data' = 500mb..... how is that unlimited!?!
