It's no big secret that many Windows users will be getting a free upgrade to the upcoming Windows 10 release on July 29th. Although what may be a little unclear, is which version each user will be entitled to upgrade to. So to make things easier, we have created a little info-graphic along with a written breakdown. Click here for a full sized image
- Windows 7 Starter, Home and Premium users will be able to upgrade to Windows 10 Home
- Windows 7 Professional and Windows 7 Ultimate will get the Windows 10 Professional edition.
- Windows 8.1 Users will be entitled to an upgrade to Windows 10 Home
- Windows 8.1 Professional and 8.1 for students will also move to the Professional version of Windows 10
To qualify for the upgrade offer you must be running the latest version of your Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 operating system. If you're wondering why W8 isn't mentioned above, this is purely because W 8.1 is a free upgrade from W8. If you haven't applied the update yet, i would recommend you do so, for the best support for your OS and of course the free upgrade offer. Find out how to upgrade from W8 to W8.1 Here
There will also be an W10 update for Windows Phone 8.1 users, who can make the switch to Windows Mobile 10. Microsoft do state that the upgrade availability may vary by OEM and mobile carriers.
Excluded from the free upgrade: The Enterprise Editions of Windows 8, 8.1 and Windows 7. Windows RT/RT 8.1 versions will also miss out on the offer.
