Back to the Future - Tomorrow's classic phones for collectors?

Our chatty Mobot Twitter (@mobotnet) has been talking about collectibles over the last couple of days with some fellow phone freaks.
Reminiscing about the likes of The Matrix phone, Sony Ericsson's K750i, the Nokia N91 and even the Samsung Pixon M8800 (great great camera) we started wondering which of today's flagships or also-rans would be hot items on ebay in 5, 6, or 10 years time.

The closest I get are the Nokia N900 and HTC HD2, but neither are current...

So, what is your guess? What oldie/s will people go hunting for on fleabay in 2018?
How will non user-replacable batteries affect the situation?

For sure the Nokia N9 and N900 will be collectors items (if they are not already), possibly the Pureview 808 as the last hurrah for Symbian (plus probably the greatest cameraphone we will see for a good couple of years)

Good one. Yes, I forgot about the Pureview.
The N900 is kind of a clasic already, isn't it? The N9, possibly, yep. With Android etc it's a good modder.

Ah yes, typo there, I meant the keyboard version of the N9 which is the N950

Oh, yes... A LOT of people are looking to buy one. Any dev who left his/hers in the unopened box is sitting on gold...

Not sure non replaceable batteries will make that big a difference, be hard put to find a decent battery for phone that old anyway.
Had that slidey nokia and was far better in memory than practice.

All those (maybe not the samsung don't recall that one) sold huge numbers so maybe just look at those that sell well, even if we aren't overly keen on them in all cases Note, S2, S3, i4s even.

The 900 and N9 have a pretty small level of nostalgia in comparison as hardly anyone will have experienced them.

Yeah, but who owned a Nokia N91? Still selling new for €340 on Amazon

Pondlife  Oct. 4, 2012 at 13:01

Or not selling?

Or not selling?

Or that :p
Greatest music player of all times, by the way. Heaviest, also :D

Surely the 3210 is a collector item.

Or the 6230 been the first decent bluetooth mediaphone.

Just to be awkward, the Matrix phone was the 8110 and not the 7110 pictured in the article ;)

Noted.
Actually, the Matrix phone was purpose-built/modified...

JanSt / MOD  Oct. 4, 2012 at 19:52

Anyway...
All Nokias? And nothing more current than the N950? Interesting.

Ok, ok...... 8110 with a spring then :p

CTPAHHIK  Oct. 5, 2012 at 10:31

First Lumia will be collectors item - 800?
Doubt about pureview - look here. Surely much better if you want a good camera.
Xperia Play most likely another one - it's one of it's kind.
James Bond phone, is that LG? If it has some special James Bond thing to it.

JanSt / MOD  Oct. 5, 2012 at 10:44

Hey, yeah - as bad as it is, a mint, sealed Xperia Play - I can see the potential.

Nah, the pureview will be a collectors item as yes its got a kick ass camera but mostly I doubt such a high spec symbian phone will ever be released again, so its Symbians last hurrah

Agree, Stelph.
Who knows - the Asha series is doing rather well. I reckon we may eventually find a sort of Pureview tech in an S40 device. Full circle - back to one-trick feature phones?
