So, you've gotten your shiny new Galaxy Nexus, but want to get the full potential out of it? Sure, it already comes with the newest 4.0 version of Android, Ice Cream Sandwich, and as a Nexus device it's going to receive direct updates from Google. However, many enthusiasts can't stand the default "stock" ROM and instead want to flash custom ROMs, which usually fix bugs, improve speed and sometimes come with other bells and whistles like custom themes or more advanced settings options.
But to flash custom ROMs, you have to unlock the bootloader of your device, root the stock ROM and install a custom recovery with which you can finally flash whatever ROM you desire. That's usually a pretty complicated process and definitely not for the faint of heart.
However, if you own a Galaxy Nexus, you can use a toolkit that will do all of the above – unlocking, rooting, and installing the ClockworkMod Recovery – with one click. Even better, should you want to revert to the stock configuration, for example to send your device back to warranty, you can just as easily reflash the stock recovery and relock the bootloader.
Still, be careful when doing any of that, as it can result in a bricked device – unlikely, but in that case, there's nobody to blame but yourself. So, go here to download the Galaxy Nexus Toolkit, but be sure to carefully read everything before doing anything dangerous, promise?
