Galaxy S2 - how to turn off talking clock on lock screen?

When my phone is locked and I press the home button, I get a time announcement every single time... Quite annoying, does anyone know how to turn it off?
Cheers

Wasn't enabled on the Samsung Galaxy S2 that I used, but hey...

=>> Settings =>> 'Voice input and output' =>> 'Text-to-speech settings' and either untick 'Driving mode' or in the option below that untick the 'Unlock screen' (read out information about time... when screen turns on).

Nice one, thanks for that!

Out of interest, now the issue is solved. What firmware are you running and on what network? Of all the S2 ROMs and firmware I've ever used (which is a lot, trust me :p), I've never seen that feature/issue, depending on how you look at it.

'xactly, matty! I used generic simfree SGS2 as is, and with a few different ROMS. It wasn't enabled in any of them.

XXKI1, on t-mobile...

matt101101 / MOD  Jan. 9, 2012 at 15:56

Hmmm...that's quite an old firmware, I can'r remember if I ever used it or not. Is that T-Mobile branded or just stock with a T-Mobile SIM card? (basically do you get a T-Mobile boot animation?)

XXKI1, on t-mobile...

Go figure O_o
Did you manage to 'kill' the ****?
I always hated Samsung phones in the past because when on silent they'd still play that stupid start-up tune. SILENT, sammy, means NO sound.

b44rch  Jan. 9, 2012 at 16:05

Must be stock as there's no t-mobile branding anywhere. Does that mean it's unlocked?
Should I update the firmware - and what's the best way to do that?

JanSt / MOD  Jan. 9, 2012 at 16:09

In settings "About" - there should be a "software" tab. Click; then => check for update.
Get someone's non-TMobile SIM to see if it's unlocked (alot of high-end Android phones here in Ireland are sold sim-free - especially around X-mas, when phones sell fast)

Jan, that's an awful way to check for updates :p. Go to:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278

And download XWKL1, that's the newest stable release. Flash it with ODIN. There are instructions at the top of the page I linked you to.

As for your phone being unlocked, 99% of unbranded (non-iPhones), are unlocked. When I bought my S2 it had O2 firmware but wasn't locked. Networks seem more bothered about getting their crap on the phones rather than actually locking them.

b44rch  Jan. 9, 2012 at 17:53

When i check for updates it doesn't find any...

Is flashing using ODIN safe?

matt101101 / MOD  Jan. 9, 2012 at 18:13

Doesn't surprise me it doesn't find anything, Samsung's consumer oriented update software is all crap for detecting, downloading and installing updates. I don't know why they don't just offer ODIN as the consumer based flashing system.

Yes, ODIN is what Samsung use to flash firmware in their service centres if your phone goes in for repair. It's far safer than Kies, though that's not difficult :p. It's a perfectly safe piece of software, I use it for flashing everything.

I used odin plenty of times without any probs :)

matt101101 / MOD  Jan. 9, 2012 at 18:21

ODIN doesn't root your phone. Noob ;).

ROMs aren't all rooted...Samsung release a new FW about once every two weeks for the S2, none are rooted, all get flashed with ODIN.

Treab, you're a noob ;), watch:

For someone looking at a thread for info, the FUN is in finding it ;)
By going on long off-topic trips we make that a tad harder...

***note to self: don't get distracted by Treab*** :p

To be fair, on this thread the actual answer to the question is "best answered" at the top of the page :).
